Ham Charlotte Russell Ham of San Francisco and Davis died peacefully on June 2, 2002, in the home of her birth in Davis. She was 89. Her spirit for life was fueled by her family, friends, community and especially by the family ranch on Russell Boulevard, which was named after her father, William Ogburn Russell. She went to the Fairfield School in Davis and Winters High School. She attended UC Berkeley and UCLA, and was a Kappa Kappa Gamma. She was also a Goldwyn Girl and appeared in several Eddie Cantor movies. She shared her interests and energy in the Junior League, the San Francisco Symphony, the San Francisco Opera, Ronald Reagan's gubernatorial and presidential campaigns, horseback riding and tennis. She and her husband loved entertaining and were a marvelous hostess and host in the city and in the country. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Richard Collins Ham, and her brother, William Ogburn Russell Jr., M.D. She is survived by her daughter Pauline (Paula) and husband Lowell (Whitey) Johnson of West Granby, Conn.; grandson Keith and his wife Maria and their son Victor Johnson of Hallendale, Fla.; grandson Eric and his wife Julie and their children Kelli and Derek Johnson of Belmont; and grandson Russell and his wife Ulli Johnson of Phoenix. She is further survived by her sister-in-law Marolyn Russell and brothers-in-law Robert and Donald Ham and the Pesola family: Anthony, Maryanne, Loretta, Marie, Loretta, Jacquilina, Michael and Nicolangelo, who lovingly cared for her and the ranch for 12 years. A memorial service is being planned for late August at the ranch in Davis. In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be made to the San Francisco Opera, 301 Van Ness Ave., San Francisco, CA 94102, or to Yolo Hospice, P.O. Box 1014, Davis, CA 95617.
