Ruud Robert Peter Ruud of Davis died May 30, 2002, at University Retirement Community in Davis. He was 76. He was born Jan. 9, 1926, to Mauritz and Helga Ruud in San Pedro. He was one of three children. In 1944, upon finishing high school, he entered the U.S. Navy, where he served as a machinist until 1946. He then pursued his education at UC Berkeley, where he received a degree in mechanical engineering and went to work for North American Aviation in Inglewood. At this time, he married Doris Ann Uselman and the two began their family. In 1956, he went to work for Avery Dennison International Corp. as a technical manager. He retired from this position in 1990. He spent his retirement years traveling with his wife all over the world to such places as Europe, New Zealand, Australia, Alaska, Canada and Hawaii. He also enjoyed photography, playing bridge and was an avid reader. He was also very active with the Kiwanis Club, where he donated many hours in service to his community. Additionally, he was a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. He was described as a very devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather, and will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his sister, Emmy J. Ruud. He is survived by his wife, Doris A. Ruud of Davis; sons David M. Ruud and his wife Bambi of Corona, Roger P. Ruud of Upland and Chris O. Ruud and his wife Charlotte of Cameron Park. He is also survived by the following Rudd grandchildren: Sarah N., Bryan D., Robert O. and Neil W. He is further survived by brother Maurice O. Rudd and Dr. Robert Fristrom. Charitable contributions may be made in his name to the Parkinson's Disease Association of Sacramento Valley at P.O. Box 601065, Sacramento, CA 95860-1065. At this time, no services will be held, per the family's request. Davis Funeral Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
