Hansen Griffith died April 16, 2002, at Kit Carson Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Jackson. Born in Tulare on Aug. 10, 1915, she was 86. She and her first husband, Oswald Hansen, moved to Davis in 1942. She worked at Rogers Department Store in Davis for many years before accepting a position in the vegetable crops lab at UC Davis. During her tenure at the university, she was very popular with graduate students, often acting as a surrogate mom. She joined the Davis Rebekah Lodge No. 253 in 1946, and is a Past Noble Grand. She was active in the Davis Community Church and as a Brownie and Girl Scout leader while her daughter was growing up. After retirement, Ruby and her second husband, Charlie Griffith, moved to Buffalo, Wyo. She was a member of Daughters of The Nile in Sheridan, Wyo. Upon Charlie's death, she returned to California, making her home in Amador County to be near her daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Andy Anderson. She lived in Rollingwood Mobile Home Park in Jackson until she could no longer live alone. She enjoyed playing bridge with her friends at Rollingwood and with the Sierra Belles Bridge Group. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Oswald "Ozzie" Hansen and Charlie Griffith, and by brothers Edwin, Joseph and Donald James. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law; her grandchildren, Tony and Pam Anderson of La Mesa and Karen and Frank Valvo of Pony, Mont.; great-grandchildren, Tricia Anderson of Boston, Toni Lynn Anderson and Tommy Anderson of La Mesa, Jennifer Patchen of Missoula, Mont., and Joseph Valvo of Pony, Mont; a niece, Lois Murphy of Belmont; and nephews, Norman Hansen of Winters and Dale Hansen of Rancho Murietta. Viewing will be held Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. at McCrory's Mortuary in Pine Grove, with graveside services Monday at 1 p.m. at the Davis Cemetery. Interment will follow. The family requests that remembrances in her name be sent for Parkinson's disease research to Parkinson's Institute, 1170 Monse Ave., Sunnyvale, CA 94089; to the Hospice of Amador, P.O. Box 595, Jackson, CA 95642; to the CAHP Widows and Orphans Fund, 2030 V St., Sacramento, CA 95818; or to the donor's favorite charity.
