"Bill" Simmons, 68, died April 15, 2002, at Woodland Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. Born Oct. 30, 1933, in North English, Iowa, he was a retired master sergeant, having served 22 years in the U.S. Air Force as an in-flight refueling specialist. Later, he worked for the Davis, San Juan and Woodland school districts, retiring in 1995. He graduated in 1951 from New London High School in New London, Iowa. He also attended many schools throughout his Air Force career. He is survived by his wife, Adriana Salinas-Simmons; children, William David and his wife Izabelle Ponce-Simmons, Edward Franklin and Andrew Jay, all of Woodland; grandchildren, William Tyler of Sutherlin, Ore., and Valerie Adriana of Woodland; his sister, Monica Blanck and her husband Gary, and their children Tammy Blanck-Watts and Julie Blanck-Lindell, all of New London, Iowa. His parents, Franck Simmons and Margaret Rhoades Simmons, and one granddaughter preceded him in death. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service in his honor on Saturday at 11 a.m. at McNary's Chapel in Woodland.
