Perazzo pbperazzo@comcast.net September 8, 2004, 7:58 pm "The Davis Enterprise," Friday, April 5, 2002 Chengxian Gao Chengxian Gao of Davis died of liver failure resulting from the complication of a chemotherapy treatment for an extragonal germ cell cancer at the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento. He was 45. He was born and grew up in the Fujian Province of China. He graduated from Nanjing Forestry University with a bachelor of science degree in 1982. In 1983, he came to the United States to continue his education. He received a master's degree in engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 1985. In 1992, he received his doctoral degree in engineering from UCD. He had been working at UCD's Shields Library, and was a programming supervisor there before his untimely death. He met his wife, Jianmin Huang, when the two were doctoral students at UCD. They married in 1988. He became a U.S. citizen in 2001. He was a loving father and husband, and a joyful and devoted friend. He was an active member of the university as well as the Davis community. He is survived by his wife and his daughters, Shirley and Emily Gao of Davis. He is also survived by his 97-year-old father, Xinli Gao of China; his elder brothers, Chengtong Gao, Chengxuan Gao, Chengquan Gao, Chengyue Gao and Chengfeng Gao of China; his elder sisters, Xuexhen Gao and Xueping Gao of China; his father-in-law, Chengsui Huang of China; his mother-in-law, Shuxian Chen of China; and his sister-in-law, Jianyi Huang of Canada. Friends are invited to a viewing Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Davis Funeral Chapel, 116 D St. The family will host a memorial service Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at the Davis Chinese Christian Church, 536 Anderson Road. Refreshments will be offered after the service. Separately, UCD will host a remembrance service Wednesday, April 17, at 11 a.m. in the courtyard at Shields Library. At the service, his friends and colleagues at the university will recount their memories of him.
