O'Farrell Sunday Afternoon Woodland Mail The Catholic Church was crowded to its utmost capacity Sunday afternoon, with the mourning friends of the late James E.R. O’Farrell, who died, so suddenly Friday morning. Long before the hour appointed for the funeral service, the thoroughfares surrounding the church were lined with vehicles loaded with those who could not find standing room in the church, and who had gathered to pay their last outward token of respect to the memory of the deceased. At 2:30 o’clock, the remains arrived at the church, escorted by the Young Men's Institute. As the hearse appeared all hats were removed and the crowd reverently bowed their heads as the cortege passed. At the church the regular Catholic burial ceremonies were held; Father Walsh briefly reviewed the life of the deceased and spoke feeling words of sympathy for the grief stricken relatives. Father Walsh spoke highly of the deceased, and was very eulogistic in referring to the generous-hearted disposition of the late surveyor. The remains were then placed in the hearse by Messrs. John Lee, C.L. Browning, J.H. Brown, David Wyckoff, Sheriff Weaver and John H. Wright, acting as pall bearers. The remains were escorted by Y.M.I. No. 15 of this city, and of which order the deceased was a prominent member. A large delegation of the Sacramento Institute No.'s 11 and 27 also acted as escorts, and a long line of buggies and carriages. The remains were interred in the Catholic Cemetery with appropriate ceremonies, after which the grave was covered with many beautiful floral pieces from the friends of the deceased. The funeral was largely attended by people from every section of the county, and neighboring cities, and the attendance attested the high esteem the people had for the late James E.R. O'Farrell. Peace to his ashes. Additional Comments: Submitted with the permission of the “Winters Express,” 312 Railroad Ave., Winters, CA 95694.
