Perazzo pbperazzo@comcast.net September 22, 2004, 10:39 pm “Winters Express,” Saturday, June 7, 1890 Edwin Hemenway HEMENWAY - In Winters, June 1, 1890, Edwin Hemenway, a native of Massachusetts, aged 53 years. Sudden Death Mr. Edwin Hemenway, who has been a resident of Winters for the past five years, died quite suddenly last Sunday morning from a hemorrhage of the foot. When a lad, three years of age, he cut the great toe of his right foot with an axe, and the wound from a scrofulous taint in his blood, never healed. Since coming to California he has been troubled with occasional hemorrhages, but always stopped them in time. But Sunday, it is evident an artery had been eaten off, it was but a short time until he was past human aid. Mr. Hemenway was a native of Massachusetts, but had lived most of his life in Wayne, Illinois. He was a man of refiring disposition, and made but few friends, but was well liked by all who came in contact with him. He was fifty three years of age at the time of his death. He leaves a wife and one child, a daughter, and two brothers, to mourn his death. Peace to his ashes.
