Keith D. Snyder

Keith D. Snyder died May 29, 2004, in Omaha, Neb. He was 94.

Born in Lincoln, Neb., the son of a Methodist minister, he attended Nebraska
Wesleyan University for his undergraduate studies, and then Newbury College
(associated with the Lutheran Church), where he met his wife, Evelyn.

He went on to study for his master's degree at Syracuse University, which he
received in 1937. He then taught music at Boston University until he decided to
study for his doctorate in public school music education at Columbia University,
which he received in 1953.

He then helped to establish the music department at Cal State Los Angeles (then
called Cal State College), where he worked from 1954 until his retirement in
1976. He and his wife then retired to Bear Valley Springs near Tehachapi.

In the late 1980s, the Snyders moved to Alvarado Avenue in Davis, and then in
1995 to Covell Gardens. While they lived in Davis, they were very active in the
Lutheran Church of the Incarnation, with Snyder taking part in the selection of
the Rev. Bill Wong. He contributed to the church until his passing.

In March 2001, he moved to Boise, Idaho, to be closer to family, relocating to
Nebraska for the same reason in November 2002.

According to his son Keith, Snyder "always said a part of him was in Davis."

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn, his sons Keith and Ben Snyder, four
grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are being made by John A. Gentleman Mortuaries in Omaha.
