Perazzo pbperazzo@comcast.net and Judith Hinton October 20, 2004, 11:49 pm “The Daily Democrat,” Friday, January 18, 2002 Violet Loy Koehn Violet Loy Koehn died at Woodland Memorial Hospital in Woodland on Friday, Dec. 14, 2001, at the age of 74. Born on March 21, 1927, in Arbuckle to Otha and Charlotte (Judson) Nickell, Mrs. Koehn had been a resident of Yolo County for more than 40 years. Family members reported that Mrs. Koehn was very active in several local and national organizations. She was president of the Woodland Chapter of the Business and Professional Women's Association from 1982 through 1983. In 1986, Mrs. Koehn received the award for “greatest achievements as a business owner" from the Business and Professional Women's Association. She owned and operated Simply Ceramics, which provided ceramic supplies. She also taught classes in ceramic artwork. Mrs. Koehn retired in 1991, and family members reported that she enjoyed making ceramics at her home, reading, and visiting with her grandchildren. Mrs. Koehn is survived by her mother, Charlotte Nickell of Woodland; daughter, Diana Ware of Rancho Cordova; son, Kevin Irvine and his wife Jan of Powderly, Texas; brother, Robert Nickell and wife Elaine of Stockton; sister, Veda Nickell of Woodland. She is also survived by grandchildren, Kimberly Junker, Jason Ware, Kandace and Nicholas Irvine; and one great grandson, Dakota Ware. Family members reported that "Mrs. Koehn will best be remembered for her loving and gentle way, and her desire to always be there for others." A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002, at Kraft Bros. Chapel, 175 Second St., Woodland. Pastor Henry Scherer will be officiating. Kraft Bros.
