Perazzo pbperazzo@comcast.net and Judith Hinton October 20, 2004, 11:51 pm “The Daily Democrat,” Friday, January 18, 2002 Connie Sue Cowens Connie Sue Cowens died in Methodist Hospital, Sacramento after being hospitalized on New Years with pneumonia Monday, Jan. 7, 2002, at age 54. Born July 4, 1947, in Okatia, Okla., Ms. Cowens resided near Tempe and Chandler, Ariz. where her father worked farming cotton and other crops and moving to Phoenix and working in the fish and chips restaurant her parent's owned and operated. All four children were born in Phoenix, before moving to Lancaster, in with them in 1975. The family has resided in Sacramento since 1978. Her son was a former resident of Woodland and attended the First Church of the Nazarene of Woodland. According to the family members, “she was a caring homemaker and loved spending time with family, cooking and baking. Since her birthday was on the fourth of July, there was always family barbecues to celebrate both events. She also enjoyed outings to Reno, and took pride in showing her pool tournament trophies she had won in years past.” Ms. Cowens is survived by her daughters, Sandra Cowens and Loretta Dumont of Sacramento; sons, Jerry Cowens and Robert Cowens, also both of Sacramento; and granddaughter, Christina Cowens of Sacramento. She is also survived by her sister, Brenda Szabo of Sacramento; and brother, James Cowens of Moulton, Ala.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Ms. Cowens was preceded in death by her parents, Leona and Buster Cowens of Chandler, Ariz.; sisters, Shirley Young of Lancaster, Evelyn Goodman of Lakewood, Margie Barnett of Sacramento; and brothers, Jerry Cowens of Kingman, Ariz., Rick Cowens of Rochester, N.Y. and Buster Cowens, Jr. of Sonora. Respecting the wishes of Ms. Cowens no services are scheduled.
