Connolly Toulson of Rocklin died peacefully on May 2, 2004, of cancer, surrounded by her loving family. She was 79 years old. She was born Sept. 1, 1924, in Oakland, to Martin J. Connolly of Glentrasna, County Galway, Ireland, and Barbara Walsh Connolly of Muckanaghkillew, County Galway. She worked in San Francisco from 1942 to 1952, when she met her husband, Hank. They moved from the Bay Area to Spokane, Wash., and later to Davis, where they spent 36 happy years. She loved to travel and saw many Western locales with Hank on his livestock buying trips for Armour & Co. Upon Hank's retirement, they spent a month touring Europe. She also visited her parents' birthplace in County Galway in 1977 and 1999. She worked for UC Davis for 17 years and was a longtime member of St. James Parish in Davis. She was a very sweet, loving and giving person, her family said. She was a talented painter of watercolors, lover of beautiful things, especially her prized roses and bonsai. Her family also described her as an outstanding cook who loved having dinner parties. "Mary's loving and generous spirit illuminated all who knew her," her family said. She was preceded in death by her sister, Catherine Youngs of Palo Alto. She is survived by her husband of more than 50 years, George "Hank" Toulson; two daughters, Nancy of Roseville and Susan of San Ramon; and two sisters, Margaret "Marge" Moran of Lafayette and Elizabeth "Betty" Connolly of Walnut Creek. She will be dearly missed by many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends in the United States and Ireland. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Attn: Web, P.O. Box 102454, Atlanta, GA 30368-2454, or to a charity of the donor's choice. A memorial mass in celebration of her life will be on Friday at 1 p.m. at St. Peter and Paul's Catholic Church, 4450 Granite Drive in Rocklin.
