Perazzo pbperazzo@comcast.net June 6, 2004, 4:51 pm "The Davis Enterprise," Monday, April 19, 2004 Frances M. Chappel Frances Mendenhall Chappel of Woodland, formerly of Trinidad, died April 8, 2004. She was born Nov. 1, 1920, in Fort Mitchell, Ala., the daughter of Edward Reese Mendenhall and Laura White Mendenhall. She was 83 years old. She married the Rev. Donald M. Chappel Jr., and the greatest joy of her life was being a mother of four children: twins, Irene (who died after heart surgery in June 1953; her creamains will be placed with her parents), and Ruth Chappel Roper of Davis, Gregory Chappel of Bass Lake, and Elaine Chappel McElhannon of Woodland. Survivors also include her brother, George White Mendenhall Columbus, Ga.; sisters, Mary Mendenhall Swint and Pauline Mendenhall, both of Columbus; numerous nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Becky Mendenhall, Mary Kate Mendenhall, Mary Alice Mendenhall and Mary Carolyn Mendenhall; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by brothers and sisters Howell, Edwin, John, Fred, Hunter and Arthur Mendenhall, Kathryn Weinzaphell and Lucille Johnson. A celebration of her life will begin at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Woodland United Methodist Church, 212 Second St. in Woodland. Immediately following the service, the family invites guests to a reception. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Woodland United Methodist Church, the Arcata United Methodist Church, Yolo Hospice or the Californian Retirement Home.
