Perazzo pbperazzo@comcast.net and Judith Hinton October 27, 2004, 9:43 pm Woodland “Daily Democrat,” Wednesday, January 23, 2002 Addie Mae Logan Molson Addie Mae Logan Molson died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2002, three weeks before her 88th birthday. Born Feb. 3, 1914, to Alvin and Hattie Logan, in Guinda, Yolo County, Mrs. Molson was the fifth born of 10 children. She was a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley where she received her bachelor of arts in Spanish in 1940, with a minor in French. After raising her two children, she returned to college obtaining an elementary school credential from Sacramento State College. She was the first African American to teach in the North Sacramento school district, retiring in 1972. Teaching was her greatest passion and she taught, as a substitute teacher, in the Woodland School District for almost 15 years retiring, at the age of 75, in 1989. Mrs. Molson was active in many organizations. She was a life member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. having pledged in 1932. She was a member of the Eta Gamma Omega Chapter in Sacramento. She was also a member of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society, International, Zeta Kappa Chapter, California, an Honorary life member of the California Congress of Parents and Teachers, Inc., The Yolo County Historical Society, and as a member of the Yolo County Historical Museum, was on the committee that saw the Woodland Opera House become an historical landmark, Town and Country, and a Charter Member of the Esparto High School Alumni Association. According to her family members, "she loved to accompany her husband Jim on the truck. She became a member of REACT. Her CB handle was Blue Bird and her husband was Early Bird." She is survived by her son, James T. Molson Jr., daughter, Jeannette L. Molson; granddaughter, Michele L. Davenport, all of Woodland; grandson, William Thomas Davenport and his wife Jennifer of Sacramento; sister, Lorena Logan Taylor of Woodland and brothers, Roderick A. Logan of Sacramento and Carver D. Logan of Honolulu, Hawaii. Mrs. Molson is also survived by her sister-in-law, Norma Logan of Oakland; nieces, Brenda Jones-Smith, Irma Logan Pendleton, Carmelita Logan Prince, Roberta Logan Hunt, Margo Lewis, Carolyn Logan Lewis, Estella Logan Hodge, Azalea Logan Whittaker; nephews, Lorin Lewis, Stephen Lewis, Carl Logan, Bill Logan, Rodney Logan, Hugo Logan, Jorge Logan, and Aaron Logan Jr. Also surviving are cousins; grandnieces; grandnephews; other relatives, extended family and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, James T. Molson Sr., in Feb. 12, 1997; brothers, Alvin A. Logan Jr., in 1988; Henry Booker Logan, in 1978; and Aaron C. Logan Sr., in 2000; and her sisters, Grace Logan Patterson, in 1990, Estella Logan Earl, in 1995 and Nellie Logan Lewis, in 2000. A memorial service is scheduled at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, at McNary's Chapel, Woodland. Graveside service will be privately held at Monument Hill Memorial Park, Woodland. The family requests memorials be directed to Heart Association; American Stroke Association; or any organization of the donor's choice. McNary's Chapel of Woodland is assisting the family with arrangements. A fee has paid to have this obituary printed.
