Howard Leon Griffin

Howard Leon Griffin died in Anchorage, Alaska, Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002, at age 64.

Born Sept. 30, 1937, in Woodland, Mr. Griffin was the son of Howard M. and
Francis V. (Nix) Griffin. He was raised in Stonyford. He attended Elk Creek High
School, where he graduated in 1957. He served in the U.S. Army for three years.
 He attended Yuba College and graduated in 1969, having attained certification
as an x-ray technician. He was employed at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in
Aberdeen, Wash. from 1975 to 1986. Moving to Anchorage in 1985, and was employed
at the V.A. Hospital in Anchorage, Alaska, from which he retired in September of
2000, after over 30 years in the medical field. According to his family members,
"he was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed golf, volleyball and
basketball." He participated in various softball leagues for 40 years, including
the Senior Citizen Olympics in Utah.

Mr. Griffin is survived by his wife, Michiko (Kamakura) Griffin of Anchorage,
Alaska; daughters, Myrna A. Sickles of Aberdeen, Wash., and Deborah L. Ward of
Westport, Wash.; son, Paul J. Griffin of Portland, Ore.; stepdaughter, Lisa Ross
of Waterford, N.Y.; sister, Barbara Lee Cook of Stonyford; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Paul J. Griffin; and stepson, Pat
Kamakura.

Visitation is scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m. today Tuesday, Jan. 22, at Kraft Bros.
 Chapel, 175 Second St., Woodland.

A graveside service is scheduled at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, at Knights
Landing Cemetery, 10002 County Road 102, Knights Landing.

Kraft Bros. Funeral Directors of Woodland is assisting the family with
