L. Wade Bird

L. Wade Bird died in the Norwood Pines Convalescent Facility in Sacramento
Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002 at age 88.

Born May 18, 1913, in Willows, Mr. Bird had been a Yolo County resident for 20
years prior to moving to Solano County in 1943. He graduated from Woodland High
School in 1931. He was a retired captain for the Vallejo Police Department
retiring after 31 years of service. He shot on the Vallejo Police Department
Pistol Team receiving many medals. He was a 54-year member of the Naval Masonic
Lodge No. 87 F&AM in Vallejo, the Silverstar Order of Eastern Star Chapter No. 3
as well as a member of the First Methodist Church in Vallejo. He was a member of
the Retired Public Employees Association and the Vallejo Police and Fireman's
Widows and Orphans Association.

Mr. Bird is survived by his wife of 63 years, Harriette Bird of Vallejo;
daughter, Sherrill Anne Wheeler and husband Stephen of Sacramento and son,
Steven Wade Bird and wife Carol of Saratoga; brother, Howell Bird and wife
Laverl of Sacramento; brother-in-law, Dan Milligan and wife Lu of Woodland;
granddaughter, Kerri Pullen and husband Scott of Elk Grove and
great-granddaughter, Laura Pullen of Elk Grove; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Private graveside services were held at Woodland Cemetery.

McNary's Chapel of Woodland assisted the family with arrangements.
