Miller Frankie Lois Miller died of cancer on June 3, 2004, at the UC Davis Medical Center. She was 77. She was born June 30, 1926, in Herried, S.D., to John and Myrl Quaschnick. She graduated from Galt High School in 1944 and attended Northwest Christian College in Eugene, Ore., where she was active in band, playing the flute and being an accompanist on the piano and organ. She married her husband, Marion E. Miller, in Galt in 1945. They lived in Martinez from 1946 to 1952, where she worked for Contra Costa County. In 1952, they moved to Linden, where she was active in their church and raising their children, and then to Woodland in 1956. She was active in the First Christian Church as an organist. She became a legal secretary, working for Harry Ackley, then Purtell and Hoppin in Woodland; Dahl and Heffner in Sacramento, and finally Bogle and Gates in Seattle when she retired in 1985. After retirement, the couple returned to Lake Almanor in California, where she took up fishing, golfing and entertaining friends, family and especially her grandchildren. They traveled to England, Scotland, Ireland and Russia. While visiting China, they sailed down the Yangtze River on one of the last trips before it was dammed. Most recently, they took a cruise though the Panama Canal. She was active in retirement with the Lake Almanor Women's Golf Group, serving as chairwoman of its annual tournament, being an accompanist for the Chester Community Chorus and a volunteer for the women's auxiliary for the Lake Almanor Peninsula Fire Department. Until recently, she volunteered with Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program, assisting seniors with medical and legal issues. She was preceded in death by her siblings Clarice Fenske, Pete Quaschnick, Robert Quaschnick, Roy Quaschnick and Kathleen Quaschnick. She is survived by her husband Marion Miller of Lake Almanor; daughter Clarice and husband Bob Martin of Davis; son Jerry and wife Karol Miller of Suisun; seven grandchildren: Derek and his wife Stacey Duncan of San Jose; Kara and her husband Greg Casey of San Jose; Lisabeth Martin of Sacramento; Molly Martin of Santa Barbara; Megan and Richard Kozma of Cassleberry, Fla.; Stacey and Sherwood Hill of El Paso, Texas; and Darrin Miller of Vacaville; and two great-grandchildren, Kaylest Kozma and Makenzie Duncan. In lieu of flowers, the family requests remembrances be made to the American Cancer Society or the Lake Almanor Peninsula Fire Department.
