Perazzo pbperazzo@comcast.net June 11, 2004, 2:36 pm "Winters Express," Thursday, June 3, 2004 Margery Ellen (Nelson) Ball Margery Ball died at Alderson Convalescent Hospital in Woodland on May 26, 2004 at the age of 80. Born October 1, 1923 in Hendriks, Minnesota, Mrs. Ball was a Yolo County resident, 10 years in Winters, and her last 26 years in Woodland. Mrs. Ball's parents were Dr. Lewis Nelson and Hazel (Langdon) Nelson, who had settled in Hendriks, Minnesota and established its hospital. Dr. Nelson was killed in an automobile accident in December 1928. In 1931 Hazel Nelson and her four children moved to Tacoma, Washington. Margery attended the University of Washington and transferred to UC Berkeley, where she met her future husband, Gerald Ball. Margery was married to Gerald Ball on June 30, 1945. She was charitable and volunteered to aid many humanitarian causes, such as The Red Cross. She was also a golf enthusiast. She was captain of the 18-hole ladies group at Both Contra Costa Country Club and the Yolo Fliers Club. She served six consecutive years on the Board of Directors of the Women's Golf Association of Northern California and served as its president. Mrs. Ball is survived by her husband Gerald, her son Robert, her daughter Nancy Shafa, her brother Blaine Nelson, her sister Beverly Perkins, her grandchildren Casandra, Vanessa, Merwan, Alejandro, Daniel and Amanda, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Respecting the wishes of Mrs. Ball no services are scheduled. An informal gathering will be held in her honor celebrating her life from 1-5 p.m. on Saturday, June 5, at Cracchiolo's Banquet Room Facility, 1320 E. Main Street, Woodland, CA 95776.
