Perazzo pbperazzo@comcast.net June 11, 2004, 2:39 pm "Winters Express," Thursday, May 27, 2004 Raymond Epling Raymond Epling, age 83, passed away in his home Friday, May 21, 2004. A long time resident of Winters, California, Raymond was born in Belcher, Kentucky on September 24, 1920, to Isaac Jacob and Dulcie Ann Epling. After graduating from Elkhorn City High School and attending Pikeville Junior College, Raymond taught school at the elementary level until joining the Army and served in the Air Corps from 1942 through 1947 which included service in the South Pacific during World War II. Raymond continued his military service in the Air Force from 1947 to 1963. Upon retirement Mr. Epling came to Winters and taught school at the junior high level until retiring in 1987. After retiring from his teaching position Raymond engaged himself in genealogical research and compiled a most interesting account of his life's experiences. Mr. Epling was active in team athletics in High School, College, and the Military. His hobbies and interests included the study of history, the study of the Bible, and genealogical research. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Marie E. Epling, his sister Loyale Holmes, and four sons: Michael and July Epling, David and Susan Epling, Barry and Christy Epling, Gerald and Valeria Epling, and daughter, Joyce and Dimitri Cherikov. Also seven grandchildren: Nancy Epling, Daniel Epling, Brita Epling, Ilsa Epling, Jeremy Epling, Jennifer Elizabeth Epling, and Leeza Cherikov. Raymond was preceded in death by his parents and 17 siblings. A memorial service for Raymond will commence at noon at Pioneer Presbyterian Church, 205 Russell Street, Winters, California, Sunday, May 30, 104.
