Perazzo pbperazzo@comcast.net June 14, 2004, 12:39 pm "Winters Express," Thursday, January 1, 2004 Vada Galloway Vada Carlene Galloway entered into her eternal rest on Dec. 26, 2003, while at Woodland Skilled Nursing Home. Born in Culp, Arkansas on April 16, 1932 to Virgie and Calvin Branscum, she was 71 years old. At age 15, Vada met a Navy man, Phineas Galloway (known as Bud) at a church dance. They married shortly after. After Bud's stint in the Navy was completed in 1947, they moved to Winters. Their four children Lynn, Sherry, Ken and Rick were born while there. While living in Winters, Vada was employed at American Home Foods in Vacaville, as a cook at St. Johns and at Mobile Chemical in Woodland and at the baker y in Winters. She loved to cook and bake and as daughter Sherry said, "fed all the kids in the neighborhood." She could not see anyone go without if it was in her power to meet a need. She was a woman of service. Her life revolved around her family, friends and neighbors. Vada loved to fish and camp, and Sherry said that her mom would sometimes keep her out of school just to go fishing with her. She loved to catch catfish and one day they caught 26. She took Sherry along to take "those puppies" off the hook. In 1986, Bud and Vada moved to Murphys. She worked for a while doing in-home nursing care and later worked at Gracewood Manor in Angels Camp. She was always caring for any neighbor who needed transportation, food or anything she could provide. She would do without herself in order to provide for another's need. Vada is survived by her husband of 56 years, Bud Galloway of Murphys; son Lynn Galloway and daughter Sherry Nichols and her husband Floyd, all of Woodland, son Ken Galloway of Murphys, and son Rick Galloway and his wife, Dawn of Dixon; sister Wanda Burrone of Woodland; grandchildren Stacy Sparkmen and Julie Nichols, both of Woodland, Eric Nires and his wife Kim, of Oregon, Gina Wilkenson and her husband Jeff, of Murphys, Robert Galloway and his wife, Debbie of Carson City, Nevada, Brandy Galloway of Washington, Yvonne Galloway of Glen Dora, James Galloway of San Diego, Ben Galloway of Winters, Jon Jon and Caitlyn of Dixon; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Hearshel Branscum, of Arkansas and Lee Branscum of Woodland. Memorial services were held in Woodland on Monday, Dec. 29, at Kraft Funeral Home.
