Perazzo pbperazzo@comcast.net and Judith Hinton November 16, 2004, 7:12 pm Woodland "Daily Democrat," Wednesday, March 06, 2002 Joseph Lazaro Joseph Lazaro died following a four and one half years battle with cancer in East Plumas District Hospital Friday, Feb. 22, 2002, at age 76. Born Oct. 12, 1925, in Mankus Corner, Mr. Lazaro had been an Esparto residence for 30 years and had resided in Portola for the past eight years. He was a carpenter and was a member of Union Local 160. He had also operated the family apricot ranch and drying yard – "Lazaro Ranches." During World War II, he served as a radioman aboard the U.S.S. Robinson - DD562 from 1943 to 1946. He was a 45 years member of the V.F.W. of Woodland Post, 40 years member of Woodland Elks Lodge, four years member of American Legion Post No. 329, Portola; and also a member of Tin Can Sailors Association. Mr. Lazaro is survived by his wife, Betty Lazaro of Portola; daughters, Evelyn Mihal of Sacramento, Roxanne Millhollin of Esparto, Dodie Truitt of Woodland and Althea Frankel of Kings Beach; daughter-in-law, Tina Mota of Sacramento; and sons, Joe III, also of Sacramento and Jerry Lazaro of Woodland. He is also survived by his sisters, Connie Perrier of Colusa, Ramona Winters of Williams, Maryanna Husted of Apache Junction, Ariz., Rose Lazaro of Carson City, Nev., and Ann Roberts of Topeka, Kan.; brother, Tony of Carson City, Nev.; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Mr. Lazaro was preceded in death by his son, James Lazaro. A graveside inurnment service in scheduled at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 9, at Esparto Cemetery. Meet at Esparto High School at 1:30 p.m. Manni Funeral Home of Portola is assisting the family with arrangements.
