Born Aug. 8, 1947, he lived most of his life in Woodland. Being the third generation in Yolo County, Mr. Buchignani attended Holy Rosary Grammar School, and graduated from Woodland High School in 1965. While in high school he participated in several sports, playing guard and linebacker on the 1964 Delta League Co-Championship team, was elected captain and also selected as All-Superior California linebacker. He played in the Optimist All Star game at Hughes Stadium in 1965. Mr. Buchignani was on the wrestling team and elected co-captain in his senior year. He attended Yuba College for two years playing football for Coach Ernie Matlock where he was selected All-Conference his second season; then continued his education at California State University Sacramento. After completing his education at CSUS, he assisted his father, who was the volunteer superintendent in the construction of the Community Stadium and Field House. He worked several years for Fisher Construction of Sacramento before joining his father in the partnership of Buchignani & Sons in 1972. Mr. Buchignani was an outdoor person who enjoyed hunting, the mountains and the seashore, recently spending time at Bodega Bay. According to his family one of his most recent pleasures was playing Pedro for Tony's in the local Pedro League and took pride in the fact that the Tony's team took first place in the league for the past three years. Mr. Buchignani is survived by his mother, Charlotte Buchignani; father Robert Buchignani, both of Woodland. Sisters, Stacy Gale and husband Michael; Marty Buchignani, all of Woodland. Brother, Brian Buchignani and wife Janet of San Jose. Nephews, Benjamin and Anthony of San Jose. Aunt, Norma E. Simpson of Woodland. Step-daughter Jody Dutton and husband Barney and daughters Jaelyn and Samantha; and stepsons Daniel and Phillip Gallardo. Visitation is scheduled from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, March 8, 2002 at McNary's Chapel with a rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. at the chapel. A funeral mass is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Saturday, March, 9, 2002 at Holy Rosary Church. Burial will be private. The family requests memorials to be directed to the charity of the donor's choice.
