Perazzo pbperazzo@comcast.net and Judith Hinton November 18, 2004, 10:45 pm Woodland "Daily Democrat," Friday, March 29, 2002 Donald Laverne Sawyer Donald Laverne Sawyer died in Woodland Memorial Hospital Wednesday, March 27, 2002, at age 74. Born June 26, 1927, in Shadron, Neb., Mr. Sawyer was the son of the late Raymond L and Edna Sawyer. He graduated from Woodland High School in 1945. He served in the Merchant Marines and worked for the Heidrick Bros. in Woodland. He served in the U.S. Army for two years. He graduated from Sacramento State with a degree in civil engineering and started his career with Teichert & Sons. He became the district engineer for the northern part of California. He retired from Teichert's in 1988. According to his family members, "he loved boating, traveling and his many friends." He served as the Commodore of the Stockton Yacht Club. He was a life member of the Woodland Elks Lodge No. 1299, a past member of Woodland Rotary and also served on the Board of Yuba College. Mr. Sawyer is survived by his wife of 52 years, Barbara Sawyer; daughter, Donna Paschke; and son, Stephen Sawyer and wife Dr. Patricia Hassebrock, all of Woodland. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Tara and Jason Paschke; great-granddaughter, Dawn Milliken and great-great-granddaughter, Geneva Milliken; sisters, Rosalee Storz and Wanda Brown, also all of Woodland; and numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside service is scheduled at 11 a.m., Monday, April 1, at Monument Hill Memorial Park, Woodland. The family requests memorials be directed to Woodland Memorial Hospital Foundation; American Cancer Society; or the charity of the donor's choice.
