Perazzo pbperazzo@comcast.net June 28, 2004, 6:29 pm Woodland "Daily Democrat," Friday, February 06, 2004 Carl Frederick Theile, Sr. Carl Frederick Theile, Sr. died following a complications from a long illness in his Woodland home Sunday, Feb. 1, 2004, at age 88. Born Nov. 28, 1915, in Oakland, Mr. Theile was a resident of Yolo County for 46 years. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After leaving the service, he dedicated his life to fire service, first getting involved as a Boy Scout in 1925. At the age of 16, he joined the Castro Valley Volunteer Fire Department while still a student at Hayward Union High School. He spent the next 50-plus years as a firefighter, with the last 25 years of his career as chief of Springlake Fire Department in Woodland. He retired in 1981. Mr. Theile was an inventor and created several pieces of fire equipment and became nationally known for his "Tilting Training Tower." He spent 15 years as deputy state fire marshal, and belonged to numerous firefighting organizations. He was also an active member of Disabled American Veterans, Post No. 131. Survivors include his wife, Helen M. Theile of Woodland; son, Carl F. Theile Jr. and wife Rose of Livermore; daughter, Dottie Garrison and husband Bill of West Plaines, Mo.; brothers, Ross Theile, and wife Pat of Modesto, and Lloyd Theile of Fremont; 14 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sons, Dennis Theile, and Robert L. Pease; brother, Edward Theile Jr.; sister, Emelie Foust; one grandson; and two great-grandchildren. The family requests memorials be directed to Chief Carl Theile Memorial Fund, c/o Woodland Fire Support Branch, 532 Court St., Woodland, 95695. Arrangements are under the direction of McNary's Chapel of Woodland. Services: Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, at Woodland Assembly of God. Burial will follow at Monument Hill Cemetery in Woodland. Following the services a reception will be held at the John Rogers Hall at the Yolo County Fairgrounds in Woodland.
