Perazzo pbperazzo@comcast.net June 28, 2004, 8:25 pm Woodland "Daily Democrat," Sunday, January 04, 2004 Norman Leavitt Joerger Norman Leavitt Joerger died in Woodland on Monday, Dec. 29, 2003, at age 76. He was born in Sacramento, Jan. 31, 1927 and his family moved to Woodland in 1929. He graduated from Woodland High School in 1945 and worked with his brothers in the Winwood Dairy business that was started by his father in 1929. Norman served a short term in the Merchant Marines from July 1953 to May 1955, and returned to Woodland to continue working with his family in the dairy business which was expanding under his brother Hank's management. In 1958 the Joerger family purchased the A&W Drive-In on Main Street and operated it only seasonally until Norman bought out his family's share and went into business full time as the A&W's sole owner and operator in 1966 until the early 1980s. He ventured into a few other restaurant businesses during the early 1980's and worked for NorCal Petroleum from the late 1980's through the late 1990's. He had been an active member of the Lions, Elks, Carlton and Fliers Clubs and was involved in fundraising for the March of Dimes, and umpiring youth baseball. His love of conversation and genuine interest of people made him admired by all who met him. Beloved Norman is survived by his children and their mother, daughter Marcine Hobbs and her husband David of Marysville; daughter Kimberly Parker and her husband Dan Parker, son Timothy Joerger and his wife Carla all of Woodland; and Cecelia Finley of Marysville. Grandchildren Joseph, Jonathan and Daniel Hobbs all of Marysville; Lyndi Eimerl and her husband Adrian of Sacramento; Kristin Parker, Holten and Eric Joerger all of Woodland. Brother E.H. "Hank" Joerger of Davis; sister Phyllis Caroddo of Roseville and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents Elmer and Theo Joerger, brothers Ted and Donald Joerger and niece Peggy Joerger all of Woodland. The family prefers that memorial contributions be directed to March of Dimes, 1615 Fifth Street, Davis, Ca. 95627. McNary's Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
