He was 86. Born Sept. 30, 1917, in Alhambra, he worked as a forester for the state of California for 63 years. He headed the reforestation and nurseries program for the California Department of Forestry, which included the state nursery and seed bank in Davis. He lived in the Davis area for many years. He was also a fellow of the Society of American Foresters, charter member and officer of the California Eucalyptus Tree Growers Association and officer of the California Christmas Tree Growers Association. He was also owner of Forest Seeds of California and New Forests Consulting. A World War II veteran, he served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy and was decorated personally by Adm. Chester Nimitz. His family said he was a general aviation pilot, world traveler, woodsman, cowboy, hiker, cabin owner and superb horseman, as well as an active Veterans of Foreign Wars member, Rotarian, Est graduate, transcendental meditator, New Thought practitioner and patient listener. He loved to drive California's highways and logging roads and could always find the longest way to route to drive between two places, said his family, which described him as loving and optimistic, a spiritual explorer with a desire to serve and improve society. "Only God can grow a tree," his family said, "but Ron gave God a lot of help." He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jessamine Adams of Cameron Park; son, Scott Adams and his wife, Margie, of Napa; and daughter, Elora Alden.
