Geddes died Feb. 12, 2004, at Woodland Memorial Hospital. He was 82. He was born Oct. 5, 1921 in Jewel City, Kan., and lived in Yolo County for 62 years. He served as a chief in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a PBY flying boat pilot, completed a tour of duty in the South Pacific and was involved in the search for the missing PT-109 boat commanded by Lt. John F. Kennedy. While on leave in 1944, he married Barbara Jean Ries. After his discharge in 1945, the couple made their home in Woodland. There he worked for more than 25 years for Epperson's at Court and College Streets as an outside parts salesman. He then worked for Quality Supply on Kentucky Avenue until retiring in August 2003. He was a past governor of the Woodland Moose Lodge and past commander of the Woodland Veterans of Foreign Wars. He also enjoyed camping and playing Pedro, a card game. He was preceded in death by his brother, Homer D. Geddes, and great-granddaughter Susan Nicole Herzig. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Barbara, of Woodland; daughters, Sandi Joerger and her husband, Tom, Chris Evans-Dull and her husband, Bill, and Patricia Harris and her husband, Bob, all of Woodland; son, Jerry Geddes and his wife, Debbie, of Grants Pass, Ore.; and sister, June Hutchison of Woodland. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Teri Morrison of Crescent City, Debbie Zimmerman of Woodland, Jim Herzig of Cookville, Tenn., Martin Herzig of Hildebran, N.C., Hiedi Herzig of Woodland, Andy Evans of Cookville, Robert Evans of Norfolk, Va., Timothy and David Collins, both of Woodland, and Ashley, Jackie and Emy Geddes of Grants Pass, 14 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. A viewing will be held Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m., at Kraft Bros. Mortuary, 175 Second St. in Woodland. A graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at Monument Hill Cemetery in Woodland.
