Perazzo pbperazzo@comcast.net July 2, 2004, 12:48 am "The Davis Enterprise," Sunday, February 15, 2004 Penny Spar Penny Spar, a former staff writer for The Davis Enterprise, died Feb. 10, 2004, of acute myelogenous leukemia. Born Jan. 30, 1951, she was 53 years old. At the time of her death, she lived in Seattle, Wash. A graduate of San Jose State University in the early 1970s, she worked on the staff of the Spartan Daily newspaper. Immediately following graduation, she came to work at The Davis Enterprise, where she covered police, fire and emergency services in the mid- to late 1970s. She also worked for United Press International in the Sacramento and Seattle bureaus. Most recently, she was working at Microsoft in Redmond, Wash., testing computer keyboards and mice. She had a great affection for birds and tropical fish, and was a huge fan of the Sacramento Jazz Jubilee. For many years, she would plan her vacation around Memorial Day weekend, even after she moved to Seattle. She is survived by her father, Mort Spar; a brother, Jerry Spar and his wife of Laguna Beach; a sister, Stephanie Spar; and a good friend, Dottie Maxwell, who lived with her and took care of her for the last months of her life.
