Perazzo pbperazzo@comcast.net July 3, 2004, 12:53 am "The Davis Enterprise," Thursday, February 12, 2004 George J. Cali George J. Cali died Feb. 7, 2004, in Sacramento. Born on July 22, 1927, in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was 76 years old. He attended Bensenhurst High School in New York and earned his bachelor's degree from Catholic University in Washington, D.C. He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in the Philippines. Upon his return to the United States in 1949, he traveled extensively in the Middle East, Europe and Latin America as an automotive parts sales manager. While on assignement in Argentina, he met his wife of 34 years, Juana P.D. de Cali, whom he married in New York in 1958. In 1959, the family settled in Brazil, where he spent 19 years managing his own automotive parts importing company. In 1978, they moved back to the United States and settled in Davis, where he established his own wholesale automotive parts company, Perfect Fit Imports Inc., which he managed until his death. For the last 12 years, he also volunteered as a Portuguese and Spanish teacher at International House, Davis, where he was honored in 1999. His life centered around his family, and he put all his energy in making sure his children received the best education available. He will be fondly remembered for his gentle manner and unpretentious wisdom, his family said, and missed dearly by family and friends. He is survived by his sister, Resa Cali; his children, Cristina Cali of Mexico City, Mexico, George Cali Jr., John Cali of Gainesville, Fla., and Connard Cali of Davis; his grandchildren, Amanda Cali, Yannick Cali, Lauren Cali-Olss and Jamie Cali-Olss. A memorial service will be held Friday at 7:30 p.m. at St. James Church, 200 W. 14th St. in Davis. A reception will follow the memorial service.
