Perazzo pbperazzo@comcast.net July 7, 2004, 6:05 pm "Winters Express," Thursday, June 24, 2004 Gerald William "Jerry" Maier, Jr. Gerald William "Jerry" Maier, Jr. passed away on Friday, June 18, 2004 at Sutter Davis Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was 42 years old. Mr. Maier was born on April 3, 1962 in Woodland, California to Gerald "Bill" Maier and Marilyn Potter Maier. A fifth generation Californian and lifelong resident of Winters, Jerry was the third of four children. He attended Winters schools and received a degree from ITT Technical Institute. In 1980, he married the love of his life, Thelma Echols, and they started their family. Mr. Maier worked for Vasey Brothers Market and Maier's T.V. and Appliance for several years before becoming self-employed as a satellite technician. He also worked for many years as a truck driver. An accomplished craftsman, Jerry had a passion for building remote control airplanes from scratch and flying them. He was also an avid fisherman, spending hours with his family and friends on his boat in the local waters. He is survived by his wife, Thelma, of Winters: sons, William Maier of Lackland AFB, Texas and Nicholas and Johnny Maier of Winters; mother, Marilyn Maier of Winters; his mother-in-law, Jannes Echols of Winters; brother and sister-in-law David and Edwina Maier of Knoxville, Tennessee; sisters Diane Maier Parent of Fullerton and Cheryl Maier Andrews of Winters; numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Bill Maier, in 2002. A memorial service will be held at the Pioneer Presbyterian Church, 205 Russell Street, Winters, on Wednesday, June 23 at 11 a.m. Private interment will take place at the Winters Cemetery.
