Her father delivered her, the second of seven children born to the Nagasugi family, first-generation Japanese-Americans. She grew up in Woodland where she graduated from Woodland High School. After graduation, she went to San Francisco City College. It was during this time that she met Kyogo "Tom" Tanabe, whom she married in 1942. With the advent of World War II, she and her family were interned in a camp in Amache, Colo. Shortly after being sent to Colorado, Tami left to marry Tom, who was due to be sent out with his Army unit to Europe. After the war, the couple lived briefly in Chicago before returning to the West Coast, first to San Francisco, and eventually to Berkeley where they would live for more than 50 years. As a mother with three small children, she was active in Girl and Boy Scouts, quilting and St. Mark's Episcopal Church, right across the street from where she lived. She regularly attended worship and helped each Thursday with the preparation of the Sunday bulletin. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom. She is survived by her three sisters, Yaye "Florence" Yoshimine of El Cerrito, Mary Kasai of Lincoln and Toshiye Murakami of Roseville; two daughters, Candace Cramer of Davis and Emily Berg of Petaluma; five grandchildren, Lara Salviati of Iowa, Jessica Berg of Elk Grove, Ethan Davis of Davis, and Matthew and Mark Cramer of Davis; and two great-grandchildren, Grace and Tai Salviati of Iowa. Memorial services will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Episcopal Church of St. Martin, 640 Hawthorn Lane in Davis. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Martin's Memorial Fund. Another memorial service will be held at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Berkeley at a later date. Additional Comments: Submitted with the permission of the "The Davis Enterprise."
