Siler passed peacefully out of this life on Sunday, June 20, 2004, in Woodland, California. He was born on Feb. 20, 1916 in Jellico, Tennessee, the second of seven children born to Randolph and Mary Stephens Siler. In 1934 he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served in the Pacific in World War II and in Korea. He retired from the Corps in 1956 and afterwards became a firefighter, market gardener and fisherman. He loved fishing and operated a boat out of Crescent City, California, until he was into his eighties. He was a loving, kind, and generous husband, father, brother and friend and will be missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife, Lois Corum Siler of Dunnigan; son Ralph, Jr. and daughter-in-law Jeanne of Carlin, Nevada; daughter Mary E. Siler Anderson of Briceland, California; step-daughter Diane Boydston of Tabihina, Oklahoma; grandchildren Erica Siler of Carlin, Sigurd and Christina Anderson of Redway, California, Isaac Coogan and his wife Brandi Coogan of Rio Dell, California, and Julia Anderson of Briceland; great-grandchildren, Savannah and Nicholas Anderson of Briceland, and Cody, Melina and Kailey Coogan of Rio Dell; brothers Woodrow Siler of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and John Siler and his wife Genevieve Siler of Zamora, and his sister Elsie Siler O'Brien and her husband Richard O'Brien of Anaheim, California. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters Ruby Siler Brown of Pasadena, Flora Siler Chavez of Venice, and Maude (Midge) Siler Pierce of Folsom; and brother-in-law, Hal Corum of Pollock Pines. Interment was at the Garberville, California, Cemetery, as he had expressed a wish to be near his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions can be made to the VFW Post 6354 Honor Guard, P.O. Box 544, Garberville, Ca 95542. Kraft Bros. Funeral Directors of Woodland assisted the family with the arrangements.
