Perazzo pbperazzo@comcast.net July 11, 2004, 7:36 pm Woodland "Daily Democrat," Sunday, July 4, 2004 Ramona Campos Manas Born Aug. 2, 1911, in Sorbas, Almeria, Spain, she had been a Yolo County resident for the last 80 years. She was the oldest of seven children born to Cristobal and Raimunda Campos of Esparto. Her dad came to the United States from Spain and set up a nursery business in Esparto. Ten years later he was able to send for his wife Raimunda and their two daughters, Ramona, age 13 and Maria, age 9, to join him in Esparto. Ramona married Tadeo (Tad) Manas in 1932. Ramona was a housewife, a loving wife, grandmother, great-grandmother and godmother. She was a fantastic cook, becoming famous for her Spanish meals that she insisted on all of her family, friends and guests eating at her home. She passes on this knowledge to her two surviving daughters. When she came from Spain at 13 years of age, she attended school where they put her in the first grade since she could not speak English. After constant teasing by the school boys she decided she would leave school and work with her dad in the fields in his nursery business, where all the almond trees in Yolo County and outlying areas were purchased from his nursery stock. Through their married life of 57 years, she worked alongside of Tad in growing and harvesting almonds. She loved her garden raising mostly peppers, which pepper seeds originally sent here from Spain and each year she would save the best seeds to germinate the next year. Ramona was predeceased by her husband Tad; her daughter Diana Heinz; her grandson Mark Roath; her granddaughter-in-law Leslie Roath; her brothers and sisters Maria Molina, Sebastian (Doc) Campos, Mike Campos, Andy Campos and Dr. Porfeiria Campos. Surviving are her daughters Catherine Roath and her partner Jim Gibson of Esparto, Rae Kuhn and her husband Ron of Woodland; her grandsons Mitch Roath and his wife Trish, Matt Roath, Brian Kuhn and his wife Jackie, Marty Kuhn and his wife Amanda; her granddaughters Stephanie Kanemasu and her husband Kevin and Amy Rossi; her great-granddaughters Meghan Roath, Melanie Kuhn, Jennifer Dale, Brittany Dale, Jada Kanemasu, Aliana Rossi and Julia Rossi; her great-grandsons Garrett Kuhn and Tad Roath.
