Ramos Dallas Luella Ness Ramos died on Dec. 29, 2003, at Sierra Health Care in Davis. She was 96. She was born on March 23, 1907, to Magnus and Caspara Ness, in Madoc (Maddock?), N.D. After graduating high school, she attended college for a year. Then she and her sister, Bonnie, studied cosmetology in Minot, N.D. She worked for many years as a hair stylist, both in North Dakota and California. She and her brother and four sisters all moved west. She worked as a hair stylist at the Senator Hotel in Sacramento from the 1920s through the 1940s. In 1949 she married her beloved husband, Victor Ramos, and they bought a home in North Hollywood, close to where her husband was employed in the film industry. She never learned to drive a car, but she loved to walk - she walked every day until she passed her 96th birthday. She loved people and people loved her, said her family, who called her "a bright and shining spirit" who was always kind, friendly and had a wonderful sense of humor. She adored wearing bright clothing and colorful jewelry, and there was nothing she liked more than getting a good purchase at a thrift shop. She was a hard worker, one who loved to be busy and to help others in any way she could. After her husband's death in 1977, she traveled extensively. She took tours and cruises, and enjoyed seeing the world and meeting interesting people along the way. She always said that she never regretted her travels, and lived very frugally so that she was able to see the world. She remained active all of her life, and took great pleasure in her friends and family. She was an avid scrapbooker, leaving a treasure trove of scrapbooks and photo albums for her family to enjoy. In 1999 she moved from her house to Evergreen Retirement facility in Burbank. She continued to take her daily walks as well as play bingo. She was loved by everyone there, her family said. After suffering a stroke in May 2003, she moved to Sierra Health Care to be near the families of her nephews, Richard Hayes and James Murphy. In the short time she lived in Davis, family members said she brightened their hearts as well as those of her friends and caregivers at Sierra Health Care. She is survived by her stepson, Vic Ramos Jr., her nephew, Richard Hayes and his wife, Kathy, all of Davis, and three other nephews, James Murphy of Sacramento, Kenneth Murphy of Mexico, and Eugene Lang of South Dakota. She is also survived by many great nephews, nieces and cousins. A private celebration of her life was planned for family and close friends.
