Blevins John Steven Blevins of Sacramento - know affectionately as "Coach," for his more than 19 years leading Davis High School's wrestling team, as well as teams in other sports - died Jan. 8, 2004, in Sacramento, with family at his side, after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 64. He was born Aug. 10, 1939, in Orofino, Idaho. After earning a master's degree from Chico State University in 1969, he spent the next 30 years teaching physical education. His real passion was coaching. In addition to wrestling, he coached golf, baseball and football. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, playing softball and collection root beer memorabilia. He is survived by his wife, Kathy, his son, Steven, and his daughter, Lori, all of Sacramento, stepdaughter, Jenifer Rochester of Knights Landing and stepson, Cory Rochester of Redding. He is also survived by his stepmother, Janie Blevins, his sisters, Boni Schueller and Noncy Borgman, all of St. Maries, Idaho, Alice VanDorn of Osburn, Idaho, and Janis Wentworth of Chico. At the request of the deceased, no services will be held. His final resting place will be in the Idaho Hills overlooking the Clearwater River, where he hunted as a child. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made in the name of the deceased to Pancreatica.org, 5 Harris Court, Building N, Suite 3, Monterey CA 93940.
