Perazzo pbperazzo@comcast.net July 15, 2004, 12:18 am “Winters Express,” Thursday, May 31, 2001 Alvin James Baker Alvin James Baker passed away on May 27, 2001, in Winters. Born April 3, 1918, in Santa Clara, he was 83 years old. A graduate of Santa Cruz High School in 1936, he was a World War II Vet. He joined the Army on May 21, 1941 staying until Oct. 8, 1945. He was a radio dispatcher for the Highway Patrol for 25 years. He was Past Master of the Northern Light Masonic Lodge in 1968 and 1970 and also of the Landmark Buckeye Lodge in 1978. Mr. Baker was a member of the Scottish Rite Temple of Sacramento, past president of Cascade Scottish Rite Temple of Redding, member of Ben Ali Shrine of Sacramento, Yolo Shrine Club of Woodland, 1978. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, (VFW), Winters since 1991. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marion D. Baker. Also he is survived by his son Rod Baker and wife, Connie of Winters; brother William H. Baker and wife Virginia, of San Francisco. Friends are invited to a time of visitation on Thursday, May 31 at 10 a.m., with the funeral to follow at Smith’s Colonial Chapel, 14 Main Street, Winters. Interment will follow at Winters Cemetery with Military Honors of the Winters VFW. Donations may be made in his name to the charity of the donor’s choice.
