Elsie S. Hamel

Elsie S. Hamel, a lifelong resident of Solano County, died on Nov. 30, 2002,
after a five-year stay at Sierra Health Convalescent Hospital in Davis. She was
six days short of being 95 years old.

She was born on Dec. 6, 1907, to Annette Runge and Herman Stick in the their
home on Tremont Road. She lived on the south side of Putah Creek for 89 years.
She was a homemaker and involved in ranching all her life.

She first rode a pony, Sid, and then a horse, Gyp, to a one-room elementary
school at the intersection of Eggert and Tremont Road. She graduated from Dixon
High School and Heald Business College. She was a member of the Tremont Mite
Society and Farm Bureau for many years. Family genealogy and local history were
her hobbies.

Her husband, Fred C. Hamel, died in 1990. Their son, Alan Hamel, died in 1960.

She is survived by two sons, Owen Hamel of Davis, and Ray Hamel and his wife
Ruthmarie of Oregon; three grandchildren, Carrie Hamel of Dixon, David Hamel and
his wife Cindy of Oregon, and Howard Hamel and his wife Lorrie of Oregon; seven
great-grandchildren; two nieces; two nephews; and her cousin, Jean McGoneghy of
New Mexico.

The family wishes to thank the dedicated nurses and staff at Sierra Health Care.
At her request, there will be no funeral service.

The family requests that remembrances be made to the Tremont Mite Society, 310
Sycamore Drive, Dixon, CA 95620.
