Perazzo pbperazzo@comcast.net July 17, 2004, 12:21 am "The Davis Enterprise," Saturday, December 7, 2002 Bert Katz Bert "Jumbo" Katz died peacefully on Dec. 3, 2002, at the age of 66. He was born in Los Angeles on June 5, 1936. After high school at Alhambra High, he served in the United States Navy. In 1964, he moved his family to Chico where he opened the Italian Cottage Restaurant; he later opened a second restaurant in Redding. In 1982, he moved to Davis and opened Caffe Italia. He retired in 1989 and moved to Cour d'Alene, Idaho, where he enjoyed many years of golfing with his friends at Haden Lake Country Club. He loved traveling, sports, cooking and playing cards with his friends. He is survived by his wife, Gayle Katz; parents, Sam and Gertrude Katz; brother, Kenny Katz; sons, Kevin and Brian Katz; and five grandchildren, Nicholas and Benjamin Katz, and Alison, Travis and Tyler Kirk. He was greatly loved and will be missed by his family and friends. The family wishes to thank the dedicated nurses and Dr. Krause of the Sutter Davis Hospital Intensive Care Unit for their warmth and compassion.
