"Jim" McHenry, beloved husband, father and grandfather, died Nov. 8, 2002, at his home, surrounded by his family. He lost a valiant battle with Parkinson's disease and cancer at the age of 79. Born Aug. 5, 1923, in San Jose to Jessie Storrie and Walter Crebbs McHenry, he graduated from San Rafael Military Academy and Oregon State University, where he earned a degree in botany. He completed his U.S. Navy pilot training at the end of World War II. He was an Extension specialist in the department of botany at UC Davis for 33 years. McHenry received a lifetime achievement award from the Forest Vegetation Management Conference and was a Fellow of the Western Society for Weed Science. He developed a number of the weed management techniques that are still in use today. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Lillian Hosken McHenry; two daughters, Lyndie Boulton and her husband Roger and Laurie Radcliff and her husband Mark; and five grandchildren, Katie and Thomas Radcliff and Christina, Andrew and Cameron Boulton. A memorial service will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at the University Club at UC Davis. A private burial will take place at Meadow Valley, close to McHenry's adored Bucks Lake cabin. Donations in his memory may be made to Yolo Hospice, Parkinson's Disease Foundation, the Sutter Cancer Center in Sacramento or to a charity of the donor's choice.
