Campbell, 81, died Saturday at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital in New York. He was 81 years old. He was born Jan. 30, 1921, in Dresden to Harry E. and Daisy M. Campbell. He was the retired chief of the Penn Yan Police Department. Campbell served with the Coast Guard during World War II, was a member of the Finger Lakes Law Enforcement Association, the Penn Yan American Legion and the Penn Yan VFW. He was preceded in death by his wife Ruth, who died in 1991. He is survived by three sons, Donald S. Campbell and his wife Patricia of Woodland, Ronald G. Campbell and his wife Patricia of Brooklyn, Ohio, and Keith E. Campbell and his wife Debra of Olmstead, Ohio; daughter, Rene K. Blalock and her husband James of St. Augustine, Fla.; sister, Sara Lampman of Florida; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral was scheduled for today at Weldon Funeral Home in New York, with the Rev. Martha Hubbard officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Penn Yan. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Yates County Office of the Aging or to a charity of the donor's choice.
