Merlin 'Mert' O. Blankenship

Merlin "Mert" Oliver Blankenship of Davis died Oct. 14, 2002, in Vacaville. Born
April 8, 1925, in Mitchell, Neb., he was 77.

He spent his childhood days in Nebraska, and moved to California in the late
1940s. He lived in the Davis area until 1970 while working for the agronomy
department at UC Davis.

After returning to Nebraska for a couple of years, he returned to California
because he missed his family and friends, and settled in the Vallejo area. He
greatly enjoyed being around his children and sharing in their activities.

Blankenship was a handyman and also enjoyed restoring antique engines and lawn
mowers.

When he and his surviving wife, Diana, married, they moved to Vacaville, where
they had lived for 20 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alva and Myland Blankenship; brother,
Marvin Blankenship; and nephew, Marvin Hope.

In addition to his wife, Blankenship is survived by two sons, Wesley Blankenship
of Represa and LaVar of Vallejo; a stepson, Jim Farmer of Sacramento; two
sisters, Eloyce Hope of Vallejo and Donnie Barnhill of Rohnert Park; four
grandchildren, Jamie, Tamra and Samantha Farmer of Sacramento and Nicolas of
Vacaville; one great-grandchild, Hannah Farmer of Sacramento; and many nieces
and nephews.

At his request, there will be no formal service. Inurnment will be private at a
later date in Davis.

Memorial contributions may be made to the donor's favorite charity.

Arrangements were under the direction of McCune Garden Chapel.
