Perazzo pbperazzo@comcast.net July 31, 2004, 12:42 am “Winters Express,” Thursday, September 14, 2000 George Harold Crum George Harold Crum passed away on Monday, Sept. 11, 2000 in his home in Winters. Mr. Crum was born March 6, 1918 in Berkeley. He and his family moved to Winters in 1924 where he attended Wolfskill School. Mr. Crum graduated from Davis High School in 1936. He graduated from UC Davis in 1941, then went on to UC Berkeley, where he received his teaching credentials. Mr. Crum taught agriculture for one year in Paterson. He joined the US Navy in 1942, where he served as a Captain of a Destroyer Escort. After the war he returned to Winters and became a fruit and nut farmer for 40 years. Mr. Crum was a member of the Winters Rotary, Chamber of Commerce, Presbyterian Church, and he was president of the Freestone Peach Association. He also served on the Winters Join (sic) Unified School District’s Board of Trustees. George wrote a column for the Winters Express “George Crum Sitting In.” The column was based on experiences of the Three Crum brothers in the 1930s and 1940s. He was preceded in death by his brother, William Bailey Crum of Los Angeles. Mr. Crum is survived by his wife of 56 years, Josephine Miller Crum. They were married in 1944. He is also survived by his son, Donald Crum, and his wife, Sarah of Paradise; son, Richard Crum, and his wife, Connie, of Winters; son, David Crum, and his wife, Linda of Chico; grandchildren, Jeffrey Crum of Paradise, Ron and Kristen Karlen, Josh and Lacie Benton, and Erritt and Stephanie Crum, all of Winters; great-grandson Kyle Karlen and great-granddaughter, Karissa Karlen, both of Winters. Mr. Crum is also survived by his brother, Robert Errett Crum, and his wife Gladys, of Carson City, Nevada. A memorial service was held on Wednesday, Sept. 13, at 2:30 p.m. at the Pioneer Presbyterian Church, 205 Russell Street, Winters.
