Perazzo pbperazzo@comcast.net June 1, 2004, 12:35 pm Woodland "Daily Democrat," Saturday, April 10, 2004 Mardell LaNotte Mardell LaNotte, 30 year resident of Woodland, passed away at home on Monday, April 5. She was born on Nov. 21, 1927 in Grass Valley, Ca. and lived in Colfax, Ca. for the first 18 years of her life, graduating from Placer Union High School and receiving her BA and Teaching Credential from Chico State College. While in Chico, she married fellow student Robert Hardenbrook and taught at Hooker Oak School for two years. When Robert graduated, they moved to Fortuna, in Humbolt County, where he taught at the high school and she taught at Fortuna Elementary. From there, they moved to Carpenteria, Santa Barbara, Riverside, then Davis where Robert was Superintendent of Schools, and she taught at Whitehead Elementary in Woodland. She remained there until her retirement. The Hardenbrooks were divorced after 26 years and three years later, Mardell married Nick LaNotte who was killed in 1987 in a scuba diving accident. Retiring from teaching in 1988, Mardell spent many hours volunteering, traveling, and enjoying her hobbies which included: reading, writing and the arts. Among her special interests were Shakespeare Club, California Retired Teachers (CRTA), Woodland Democratic Club, American Association of University Women, Woodland Opera House, Woodland Care Car, and Yolo County Historical Society. Surviving Mardell are her three children: Bart Hardenbrook of Woodland, Andrea Bjerke of Davis and her husband John, and Bob Hardenbrook of Rolling Hills Estates, and his wife Bridget. Also surviving are her five grandchildren: Brooke, Katy and Erica Bjerke, and Skylar and Leah Hardenbrook. Friends are invited to a celebration of her life on Monday, April 19, 2004 at 10 a.m. at McNary's Chapel in Woodland. Interment will be private at the Colfax Cemetery at a later date. Remembrances may be made to The Woodland Opera House, The Endowment Fund of the CRTA, or to the Hospice of Yolo County. (A photograph of Mardell LaNotte is included with this obituary.)
