She was born in Hollywood on Feb. 27, 1942 to Everett and Ruth Winship. Arleen graduated from Gardena High School in Gardena and enjoyed taking classes at Woodland Community College. Arleen resided in Woodland for 37 years. Arleen's greatest pride was her four children. She was an avid seamstress and liked to crochet. She was a homemaker for 17 years and was active in PTA, room parent, Girl Scout troop leader, girls softball, Cub Scouts and very involved in Woodland Little League during her sons' participation. Arleen also loved traveling and camping, especially enjoying the ocean. Arleen was employed by Contadina and the Woodland School District for 10 years. She is survived by her loving husband of 13 years, William "Bill" Nickel. She will be deeply missed by her children, Sherri Martin-Gallagher and her husband Matthew, Brian Martin, Christian Martin, Kenneth Martin, Tina Nickel-Kelly and her husband Joe and Regina Nickel-Ligons and her husband Larry. She has 15 wonderful grandchildren and five delightful great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers, David and James Winship and many nieces and nephews. Her greatest gift was her ability to care for her family and friends. A celebration of her life will be held Monday, Jan. 30 at 10 a.m. at St. John's United Church of Christ, 432 Cleveland St., Woodland with Pastor William Schroeder officiating. Interment will be at Monument Hill Memorial Park. The family requests donations made in Arleen's name to UC Davis Cancer Research Center, 4501 X St., Suite 3016, Sacramento, 95817. Kraft Bros.
