She was born in Dallas on Oct. 17, 1934 to Garland Morris and Mildred O'Bannon O'Brien She married Dean T. Mason on June 22, 1957. Maureen attended Duke University in 1952 and received a Bachelor of Arts in Education in 1956. She taught in Junior High School in Durham, N.C. and then in Baltimore, Md. for three years. When Maureen and Dean were married they resided in Baltimore where Dean completed his Internship and Medical Residency at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. They then lived in Bethesda, Md. from 1961 to 1968 where Dean completed his fellowship in Cardiovascular Medicine at the National Heart Institute. Maureen and Dean moved to El Macero in 1968 when Dean was recruited to the new UCD Medical School to become the founding Chief of Cardiology and Professor of Medicine. In 1983 when Dean was appointed as the Medical Director of the Western Heart Institute at St. Mary's Medical Center in San Francisco they maintained two residences and upon Dean's retirement in 2000 they resided exclusively in El Macero. Maureen has two wonderful daughters and four delightful grandchildren. Kathleen and her husband, Farin Januszewski reside in Orinda with their two children, Caitlin (age 9) and Mason (age 3) where Kathleen is a Director of Marketing for Macy's West. Alison and her husband, Charles Brooks reside in Perkasie, Pa. with their two children, Amanda (age 10) and Ashlin (age 7) where Alison is busy serving as the PTA president. Maureen has enjoyed many years traveling extensively throughout the world with her husband, principally on International Medical Teaching Conferences. Locally she has especially loved her bridge clubs and serving as chairperson of the Sunset Cooking Group for the University Farm Circle. Over the past 35 years, Maureen has volunteered her time and talents to several activities and organizations in the Davis area, including, PTA President at Pioneer School, Girl Scout Troop Leader, Alpha Chi Omega VCD Sorority House Director, University Farm Circle (Service Award Recipient), Republican Women's Association, Davis Community Church, Book Club, Stock Club and Captain of the Niner's Golf Team at El Macero Country Club. Donations may be sent in Maureen's honor to the Davis Community Church or to the American Cancer Society. Memorial services will be held on Thursday, Jan. 26, 2006 at 2 p.m. at the Davis Community Church with a reception immediately following the services. A private interment will be in the Davis Cemetery under the direction of Wiscombe's Davis Funeral Chapel. Those who wish to sign a guest book on line may do so at www.davisfuneral.com.
