Jose Maria Ortega

April 28, 1918 — Jan. 19, 2006

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated this week for Jose Maria Ortega, 87, 
who died Jan. 19, 2006 in Livermore.

Mr. Ortega was born in Zitacuaro, Michoacan, Mexico. He lived in Manteca the 
last 24 years of his life. He worked 38 years as a warehouse man for a 
fiberboard corporation in Emeryville. He was a member of ILWU Union Warehouse 
6 for 38 years. He enjoyed cooking, carpentry, gardening, camping and visiting 
with family. 

He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to 
all who knew him, and he will be deeply missed.

Mr. Ortega is survived by five children, Carlos Ortega, and his wife, Becky, 
of Pleasanton, Gloria Davalos, and her husband, Ernesto, of Manteca, Marta 
Holm, and her husband, Richard, of Tracy, Lorenzo Ortega of San Leandro and 
Robert Ortega, and his wife, Denise, of Livermore; a sister, Ester Ortega-
Padilla of Zitacuaro; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Esperanza Ortega; and four siblings, 
Rutilio Ortega, Luis Ortega, Eduardo Ortega and Gloria Ortega.

Interment was in Park View Cemetery in Manteca.
