Mr. Woods was born Feb. 9, 1938 to George and Lita (Zollig) Woods in Likely. He had been a Woodland resident for 10 years. After graduating from Lodi High School in 1956, he joined the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Ft. Lewis Pistol Marksmanship Team. He worked for PG&E in Sacramento and then for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service as a trapper in Quincy and Mariposa. In 1963 he became a deputy for the Plumas County Sheriff and was a founder of the Plumas County Search and Rescue Jeep Posse. Later, he joined the U.S. Forest Service in Quincy as an engineering equipment operator, serving in the Plumas National Forest; Clearwater Forest; Olympic National Forest; and Wallowa-Whittman National Forest. He helped found the search and rescue unit for the county sheriff's office in the Clearwater area. He was a member of the Idaho National Guard and competed nationally on the rifle marksmanship team. After retiring, he and his wife volunteered for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Refuge System. In 2003 he returned to work and helped found the "Friends of Hart Mountain National Antelope Refuge." Survivors include Mr. Woods' wife of 45 years Anne of Lakeview, Ore.; his daughter, Chris Pellissier and her husband John of Klamath Falls, Ore.; his sons, Joseph Woods of Klamath Falls, Ore., George Woods and his wife Kim of Boise, Idaho; his grandsons, Jacob Woods of Boise, Idaho, Brandon Woods of Roseburg, Ore. and Raimey Schaan of Roseburg, Ore.; his brothers, William Woods and his wife Karin of Charlotte, N.C., Robert Woods and his wife Wanda of Gridley; brother-in-law, John Otter and his wife Elda of Carmichael; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. The family requests memorials in Mr. Woods' name be directed to the Leukemia- Lymphoma Society, 9320 SW Barbur Blvd., Suite 140, Portland, Ore. 97219; or to the Jefferson State Friends of NRA, P.O. Box 7465, Klamath Falls, Ore. 97602. Services: A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. March 18 at the Portola Station Baptist Church in Portola. Private interment will be in the Likely Cemetery in Likely. The Alternative Burial and Cremation of Oregon, Sherwood, Ore. is assisting the family with arrangements.
