LEWIS BURIAL GROUND USED FROM ABOUT 1880 TO 1910 THIS MEMORIAL ERECTED IN 1961 TO RECALL THE FORTITUDE AND PERSISTENCE OF PIONEERS AT REST HERE. --Cherry Creek Grange This burial ground is located on Parker Rd, about one half mile north of Orchard Rd (Aurora). It is currently being surrounded by the Pioneer Hills Shopping Center. The photographs were taken on August 25, 2002. Photos contributed by Douglas & Marjorie Middleton When the University took possession of the Pioneer Hills property, the cemetary contained more than 15 pioneer head or foot stones. Today, due to negligence & disregard, no stones remain. Only a few bases have survived. The University never did fulfill its’ promise to erect a monument at the site. One was finally placed by the Cherry Creek Grange.
