C. Hood Whereas it has pleased almighty God to remove from our midst our beloved brother, Samuel Clinton Hood, your committee beg leave to submit the following report: Brother Hood was born Dec. 25, 1860, at Cobbs P. O. Cherokee county, N. C. Baptised into Nolta River Baptist church, Oct. 5, 1878. Elected church clerk Feb. 8, 1879, and preached his first sermon to said church Sept. 11, 1886, and ordained to the ministry, Aug. 14, 1887, at Nolta River Baptist church by the following Presbitery Revs. J. G. Washburn, W. C. Cearly and S. C. Self. He attended Mercer University four years, taking his diploma with degree of B. A. June 26, 1889, in which institution he made a most excellent record. He, then, for several years taught, and afterwards attended the Southern Baptist Seminary for one year gettin a cerificate in certain studies June 2, 1892, serving on the editorial staff of the Seminary Journal during his attendance there. In the fall and spring of 1892-93, he attended and received diplomas from Hamilton Theological Seminary and Colgate University at Hamilton, N. Y. Went to South Carolina as pastor at Elrose, and married Miss Floride Lowman, of Orangeburg, S. C., June 7, 1894. Supplied at Griffin, Ga., during winter of 1894-5. Acted as copresident of Orangeburg Collgiate Institute with Dr. J. G. Harrison in 1895-6. Vice president of Stephens College and Conservatory of Music at Columbia, Mo., for two years, 1896-8. Became president of Monroe Female College, at Forsyth, Ga., Sept. 1898 and was connected with that institution until 1900. Was elected pastor Social Circle and Covington Baptist churches, January, 1901. Going from here to San Antonio, Texas, in January, 1902. Later to Northwest Texas, with his sister at Crowell, then to Boulder, Col., where he died at Colorado Sanitarium Oct. 18, 1902. His brother, J. J. Hood was with him for over one month before his death. He is survived by his noble wife, little son, Clinton, and baby daughter, Carmen. To all of whom we tender our sincere sympathy and condolence. Brother Hood was a kind, good husband and father, an excellent citizen, an earnest and faithful preacher of the Gospel of our Savior; zealous in prayer and labored earnestly for the salvation of the lost, but in the very, dawn of his work among us, the Lord called him Home, so let us say, "the Lord gave and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord. Therefore be it resolved that we as a church deeply mourn the loss of our beloved brother and former pastor and greatly miss him and his family from our midst, but fell that our loss is only temporary, but his gain is eternal. Your committee ask that the resolutions be spread upon the minutes of this church and a copy be sent the bereaved family of our beloved brother. C. E.
