Tuesday, July 24, 1934 Mrs. Henry R. Hay Dies: Beloved Salida Citizen One of Salida's most esteemed women Mrs. Emily C. Hay wife of Henry R. Hay died at 12:35 o'clock this morning after an illness lasting a week' She underwent an operation at the Rio Grande hospital on Monday of last week. The operation revealed that her recovery was impossible. Her death had been expected momentarily for several days. During her twenty five years residence in Salida, Mrs Hay became known to almost all the people. She led a quiet but busy life. She was an ardent member of the Church of the Ascension and took an active part in the Guild. She was a member of the choir and she frequently sang at funeral services. She was also a prominent member,of the Eastern Star. During the World War, Mrs. Hay took an active interest in Red Cross work and was given the responsibility of leadership in some of the work of that organization When not called upon to serve as a willing worker in the interests of the community, she devoted her attention tozher home and her family, and it was in the role that most of her friends knew her best. Mrs. Hay was born in Dalbeattie Scotland, Jan. 17, 1870. She was married July 2, 1894, to Mr. Hay in Barre Vt., where she had lived several years. They also lived in Albany, N.Y. before coming to Salida, 25 years ago. She is survived by her husband and one daughter, Miss Louie Hay of Salida, and one brother, George Mackenzie of Barre, Vt. Her sister, Mrs. Woody, was seriously injured in an automobile accident several weeks ago, and had recuperated sufficiently to accompany her daughter to California. Mrs. Hay refused to let her sister know of the pending operation so that the trip would not be delayed and Mrs. Woody left for California only a few days before. Mrs. Woody will return to Salida with her daughter, Mrs. John Cottrell of Long Beach to attend the services. She is expected to arrive tomorrow. Mr. and Mrs. Luther Jones of College Sta 'tion, Tex., will also come to attend the funeral. Mrs. Jones is a daughter of Mrs. Woody. Funeral services will be held Thursday at the Church of the Ascension. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery. Services for Mrs Hay are largely Attended: Funeral services were held at 2:30 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the Church of the Ascension for Mrs. H R. Sandusky, Wallace Schoolfield, Sr., Dr. G.W. Larimer and Herbert Hodding.
