Mary S. Butler or Delta died Feb. 27, 1996, at Community Care of Delta of natural causes. She was 85, and had been a Delta resident for 73 years. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10 a.m. March 2 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church with Rev. Nathanael Foshage officiating. Burial was in Mesa View Cemetery in Delta. Mrs. Butler was a housekeeper and maid for prominent Delta Businessmen and doctors from 1929 until 1934. She was co-owner of Jack’s Liquor in Delta from 1954 until 1979. She was born Sept. 13, 1910, in Victor, to George H. and Margaret (Osterman) Stark. She spent her childhood in Victor, Goldfield and Pueblo until 1923, when the family moved to Delta and she graduated from eighth grade from Read. She married Jack A. Butler on Jan. 8, 1935, in Delta. He died in August 1982 in Delta. Mrs. Butler was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Delta. She enjoyed crocheting and embroidery work. Survivors include a son and his wife, Bill and June Butler of Clifton; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Margaret and Francis Nagel of Delta, Patricia and Don Noble of Kenai, Alaska, and Cecilia Spangler of Grand Junction; a brother, John Stark of Denver; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Margaret Hasty of Leadville, Helen Roth of Amarillo, Texas, and Lilly and Richard Ball of Fremont, Calif.: Seven grandchildren and their spouses, James Noble of Kenai, Alaska, Scott and Amy Spangler of Denver, Robert and Kim Nagel of Aurora, David and Kari Butler of Escondido, Calif., Jason Butler of Clifton, Kathleen and Steve Haney of Grand Junction and Julie Butler of Phoenix, Ariz.; and two great-grandchildren, Stephen Noble and Kristopher Butler. She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, George Butler, and seven brothers, Joe, Mike, Mark, Frank, Henry, Peter and George Stark.
